Mali: Call for Applications to Participate in the OFF Events of the 2026 Rencontres de Bamako
On the occasion of the 15th edition of the Rencontres de Bamako, to be held from November 26, 2026, to January 26, 2027, under the theme “REFABULATION(S),” which invites participants to examine narratives, imaginary worlds, and representations, and to explore new ways of narrating the world through contemporary creation, a call for submissions is now open to artists and professionals from Mali, the African continent, and various international scenes who wish to be part of the Off program.

Bringing the Biennale to Life in the City Through the OFF
The OFF is conceived as an extension of the main program. Its goal is to further open the Rencontres de Bamako to the city and to directly connect the venues that foster creativity in Bamako with their audiences. It also opens the Rencontres de Bamako to other artistic disciplines and allows visitors attending the Rencontres to explore different spaces throughout the city.
Cultural centers, galleries, independent spaces, restaurants, bars, and other venues capable of hosting an audience may submit a proposal. The call for proposals is open to all disciplines (exhibitions, concerts, performances, screenings) and interdisciplinary formats. An artist may also submit a proposal if a venue in Bamako commits to hosting their project. The OFF program will be compiled from the proposals received and selected.
How to Apply?
Applications must be submitted exclusively via the call for proposals form. Organizations must provide:
- the name of the venue and its neighborhood in Bamako,
- the contact information for the point person,
- the title and a description of the project,
- the discipline or format,
- the connection to REFABULATION(S) and the proposed dates.
- Visuals or videos may be included with the application, depending on the nature of the proposal.
Selected projects will officially be part of the OFF program for the 15th edition of the Rencontres de Bamako. The venues and their programming will be promoted on the Biennale’s platforms and presented to the public and professionals attending the event in Bamako. The Rencontres de Bamako teams will assist the venues in promoting their programming and ensure their integration into the overall OFF program.
The main program of the 15th edition will take place primarily at the National Museum of Mali, the Maison Africaine de la Photographie, and the Amadou Hampâté Bâ Palace of Culture. The OFF will also guide audiences and professionals to other venues throughout the city, creating an artistic itinerary that invites visitors to discover Bamako through the lens of contemporary art.
